At VivaTerra we are dedicated to bringing an eco-friendly lifestyle to every part of your home decor (and more)! Before it was "trendy" to be green we recognized the importance of this mission and the inherent beauty within it.
Our merchants travel far and wide to bring you the very best products from across the globe, each filled with decorative charm and representative of our commitment to socially and environmentally conscience practices and materials. Below are just a few of the things we look for when creating our collection.
We support non-profit and fair trade organizations worldwide to ensure artisans see fair wages, healthy working conditions, and sustainable development for their communities. Additionally, we source products from global, fair trade partners. Not only do these partners ensure that artisans are treated well and paid fairly, but also that these artisans, their families and their communities directly see the benefits of their artistry and craftsmanship. Whether this means directly supporting initiatives to improve the quality of life in an impoverished community, or empowering the members of these communities themselves, your consumer decisions serve as a powerful way to reduce poverty and touch lives across the globe. In addition to providing these artisans with a sustainable market for their goods, you benefit from a selection of unique, artisan-made gifts and home goods.
Whether crafted with FSC-certified or reclaimed wood, recycled glass, vintage fabrics, or salvaged metal, we stand behind products created using recycled materials. By repurposing what we already have available to us, we preserve our limited natural resources and reduce the harmful effects of greenhouse gas emissions on the environment. Our reclaimed wood collection is one of our most treasured, for its positive impact on limiting deforestation, and because of its distinct aesthetic and individuality. Each recycled collection posses a singular beauty that makes it irreplaceable. From vintage fabric pieces created from recycled traditional garments—like saris and huipils—to light fixtures that originate as glass bottles, each collection is eco-conscious and has a unique character that’s all its own.
We like our products au naturel, because not only do we believe in the quality of nature, but also in protecting it. By eliminating the use of pesticides and other common toxins found in the farming industry, and ensuring a chemical free production process we reduce harm to the earth and all those who inhabit it. Many of our wood products, from beds to bowls, remain untreated and are finished only with natural oils and waxes. Additionally, we prefer textiles and fabrics that have natural finishing and dying processes, such as the use of AZO free dyes. Floral dyes, vegetable dyes, and tea dying are not only eco-friendly and chemical free, but produce some of the most beautiful colors. Ultimately, we believe our products should be as close to their natural form as possible, to benefit us and nature alike.
While we boast an ever-growing list of products made by artisans across the globe, we proudly support the artists, crafters, makers, builders, carpenters and all other types of artisans right in our own backyards by offering products proudly made in the USA. Our hope is that when you think of beautiful, handcrafted products from across the globe, you think of them too. Buying domestically can be more eco-conscious, as it reduces transportation needs and the energy and natural resources expended in the process. This makes us huge proponents of shopping locally, both for our environment and for our neighbors.
