Soapstone is a great choice for natural stone home goods because it is one of the most eco-friendly to harvest. The in small quarries where soapstone is gathered there is no cutting into mountains or digging to extreme depths that harm the earth. Additionally, soapstone is naturally bacteria resistant, so no harsh chemicals are used in its fabrication and it can be cleaned with natural harmless products. Soapstone continues to be eco-friendly after harvest as well; it naturally maintains its temperature, hot or cold, requiring less energy during baking and serving.

Because items are made from naturally sourced, genuine stone, color, texture, grain, size and shape will vary slightly from product shown. Multiple products of the same color will likely not posses exact or uniform color.

Cure Before Initial Use
To prepare your soapstone pieces for life-long use in your kitchen you must season or cure them with oil and heat. Once your soapstone cookware is seasoned, it will have a smooth non-stick finish.

Curing Soapstone Pots
Before curing, wash with a sponge or brush in hot water only, and allow to dry thoroughly. To begin curing, amply grease all surfaces of your soapstone cookware with your choice of cooking oil. Use care in handling the oiled pieces. Set it in a warm location for 24 hours, until the oil is absorbed and the stone becomes almost dry.

After allowing the oil to absorb, fill the pot with water up to the line of the metal band. Put on the stove at low setting and gradually up to medium or medium-high to bring the water to a boil. Allow the water to boil uncovered for 30 minutes. Remove from heat and allow the water return to room temperature on its own before draining. For an even deeper curing, repeat the above greasing, drying, heating and cooling process a second time.

Note: During the first few uses of your pot, turn up the heat only gradually.
