About 250 years ago, Sweden's King Gustav visited France and returned with a passion for ornate French neoclassical design. Swedish woodworkers tossed out the frou-frou but wisely kept the striking and unusual arched, scalloped furniture silhouettes. Our reclaimed Douglas fir Gustavian bed adds a contemporary green twist and honors the character of the rare first-growth fir used in its construction.
Up to a century old, the rich hue, deep patina and tight grain of the wood - from razed buildings - simply cannot be duplicated in new timber. Our bed is hand-planed to smooth its finish while preserving the distinctive textural appeal of the fir's knots, nail holes and weathering scars. Its light water-based stain, and hard oil wax, both eco-friendly, highlight the fir's singular beauty. Made in USA. Assembly required.
To use as a platform bed (without a box spring) add the platform converter kit to your order. Platform slats are custom made for your bed and must be ordered at the same time.
All bed side rails are about 10" in height and sit about 8" off of the floor
|Made of||Reclaimed Wood|
|Made in||United States|
An estimated 25% of municipal waste consists of wood from both construction and demolition. Hardwoods that could be used to make furniture are being disposed of in landfills in the US, while deforestation happens in other parts of the world in order to make furniture to export to the US. This American-made vintage Douglas fir piece not only uses reclaimed wood it's US-origin means fewer resources are used in it's transportation. Only water-based stains and formaldehyde free glues are used in it's manufacture.

As our reclaimed wood products are in their second lives, you can expect to see blemishes, holes or other scars in the wood. But every scar has a story, and we believe these imperfections give reclaimed lumber its rich character and singular beauty.
|Product Care||Because our wood pieces are finished with natural products, color variations may occur. Additionally, a naturally finished wood will age differently than treated lumber. Due to dryness, small cracks and other imperfections can occur. To care for wood and maintain its natural luster, it’s recommended you treat with mineral oil or apply a natural wax, such as bees wax polish or carnauba wax.|

Buying domestically can be more eco-conscious, as it reduces transportation needs and consequently the energy and natural resources expended in the process; this makes us huge proponents of shopping locally.|
